San Cristobel and Palenque

Location: San Cristobel, Mexico

San Cristobel is a beautiful old colonial town in the heart of Chiapas Maya country SE of Mex City, and only 200km away are the fantastic ruins of Palenque.

Agua Azul falls (more lig big cascades) are on the way to Palenque - unfortunately the water was brwon due to the amount of recent rains and storms.

The centre of the town is all old colonial buildings, but somewhere in the recent past there has been a sale of bright paint nearby, and it appears many locals stocked up and painted everything glow in the dark colours? The 500 year old cathedral is yellow/orange!

Misol-Ha falls are also on the way to Palenque and are quite impressive especially as you can walk behind the falls to hear and feel their power.

Palenque is a Mayan site, built and expanded by numerous rulers but is said to have been at its grandest between AD600-800.
