VaranasiLocation: Varanasi, IndiaVaranasi is one of India's seven sacred cities. It is on the river Ganges or the Ganga as they call it! It is full of life. So many places in India touch me right to my core! I have never been so moved as I have here!

Picture of the Ghats!
I could have taken this child home with me!
Tons of boats line the river, and tons and tons of tauts ask me about 100 times a day if I would like to go for a boat ride. I did at 5:30am my first morning in Varanasi but now I just walk the ghats!
If someone in your family has died you shave your head. All this happens at the Ghats (steps leading to the river).
Like everywhere in India there are many beggars! I often feel that most do not go hungry which is a good thing. Not all have a home!
More life on the ghats. They bathe, brush their teeth, do their laundry, wash their cattle etc. etc.
Laundry time. They scrub then pound it out! You have to ask yourself, if your clothes are washed in the ganges are they really clean??
Some people visiting the holy river!
Young and old!
