Blackwater Rafting!

Location: Waitomo Caves, New Zealand

The best way to see the gloworms is surely to grab a rubber ring and fling yourselves off waterfalls in the dark...isn't it???

14 Jun 2006, 4:35PM

Ah the gloworm (but not actually a worm, the lavae of a fly) we did watch a film which was like a science lesson so we won't bore you with the details about how it glows!

21 Jun 2006, 10:57AM

No not pearl necklaces but strings of goo to catch flies...mind your faces as you go floating past!

3 Jun 2007, 12:42PM

Can you spot our lovely shapely bottoms out of the line up? You'll be pleased to note we didn't need the largest rings!

3 Jun 2007, 12:28PM

Ready for action, it's like Gladiators with wetsuits!

3 Jun 2007, 12:49PM

This is Emily's face of enjoyment which you may recognise from the White Water Rafting...but it's O.K. once we're in the caves no will be able to see it!

3 Jun 2007, 12:44PM

Practicing 'the eel' - no not a position from the Kama Sutra but a technical formation to help us cruise down the stream in the pitch black, though everybody just looks like ladybirds on their backs!

3 Jun 2007, 1:06PM

A time when we were allowed our headtorches on just before we start tumbling down streams like alcoholics on a Sunday morning.

3 Jun 2007, 1:01PM

Waving goodbye as we head deep down underground for an adventure...

9 Aug 2006, 11:12AM

Starry, starry night...More impressive in real-life, the gloworms make the caves look like just a starry night.

3 Jun 2007, 2:13PM

We survived, all a bit cold and wet but we made it! And all our rings still intact (no jokes please).
