Swift Water Rescue
Location: Eagle River, AK, USAEagle River is fed by the Eagle Glaicer, with water temp about 42º. The river runs about 5 MPH -- faster than you can swim against. Well, faster then ME anyway. Here are our rescue pictures.
Fleece one piece, dry suit, rubber gloves, hiker boots, life jacket and helmet.
Removing air from dry suit.
Adrain's right leg is in the suits' left leg, and his left --- well, you get it. (I put my left leg into my left sleeve!)
Bag toss practice. Notice the handle is flying from her hand? That's why we practice.
Testing the waters.
AFD Eagle River rescue boat.
Victims headed upstream.
"Body in the water!"
After a successful toss I pull my victim to shore, where he was no longer a "victim".
Not ALL fun and games after several big gulps of glacial silt filled water. But...
she smiles after a second trip! Outstanding determination.
Robby my hero.
