Village Trip One

Location: Gambia

As you all know I went upcountry this past weekend so here are a few glimpses at life in the village.

The bus ride up to the main town close to the village was hell so we decided to stop for a beer (for the ladies) and a couple of cokes (for the men). These were the coldest drinks in the Gambia.

Taken looking down from the ferry into boats that are being loaded with stuff to take across the river to the other side. The prices to take all these goods to the other side are too expensive so many people put all their things in these boats and they are very unsafe. This boat was taking in so much water but they just kept filling it up.

Here are the women sitting directly across from the men. The twobobs got to sit with the men.

Prayer started very early on Sat morning for the New Year Holiday. This is Lamin's original family's compound so all of these people ore somehow related to him (this is not the whole village). The men sit on one side and the women on the other.

Two donkeys taking a break from the really hot sun under some compounds roof.

Some of the many children that would follow us around at all times.

Tracy atop the donkey cart.

Lots of our followers. They loved having their pictures taken.

Mino and his brother Kara standing beside the biggest round mud hut in Western Africa. It is located in their village but you can't go inside because there is powerful JuJu that can kill you.

A boy with his pet monkey. I was a little sad to see this but what are you going to do. Many people are scared of the monkeys and they do not eat them.

Me driving the donkey cart. The best driver award was given to me that day as well.

Mino trying to drive the donkey cart. He really is a city boy.
