My trip to Bagram
Location: Bagram, AfghanistanI recently got to attend a conference in Bagram, which is a few miles north of here. I flew up and convoyed back... It was a good experience and I got to see more of Afghanistan up close. Enjoy!!
It was was one seat per row on this plane...we're talking small.
Kabul airport from the air, just after takeoff. The new terminal is under construction.
Kabul at dawn.
2 minutes into the flight and we are completely in the countryside.
A small collection of houses in a little village.
We were flying rather low and near to the surrounding mountains,
Up close to a small group of homes.
The legendary Pat Tillman USO in Kabul. The temporary lodging facilities are sooo bad in Kabul that many folks just sleep on the couches in here.
A friend of mine. We told the proprietor that her parents didn't know she was in Afghanistan, and that they think she was in Europe for a ski holiday. So we dressed up in their ski gear and took the pic. Her mom can rest easy now! Shhhhh...don't tell
A small town by the road on the drive home.
A lonely highway check point. ISAF was visiting that day.
This is a beautiful and rugged country in parts. But also very very desolate.
