Paintings by John Henri de Saram
After a fulfilling career as a teacher at his old school the Royal College, Colombo and international civil servant, Henri has been able to devote more time to his painting. His evocative seascapes and landscapes of rural Sri Lanka add a touch of serendipity to the homes of many expatriates now living in the USA, England, Dubai, Australia and Malaysia.
Painting is therapy, he says, not just for the artist but also for those who can respond to the finished work - hence Henri's recent donation of a series of paintings for each room of the Ceylon Cancer Society Homes in Maharagama. Or as one critic mused, 'there are some of us who prefer to wake up to a tranquil scene than a gargoyle'.
Currently he is experimenting with collage and acrylics, literally giving another dimension to his work.
As with his previous exhibitions a proportion of the proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Homes in Maharagama, Sri Lanka.
