Agra: Jan. 27 - Part 1

Location: Agra, India

The General's Retreat was a great place to stay, a place that was more like a home than a hotel.

Ourdoor dining at the General's Retreat in Jaipur. We enjoyed a final cup of coffee before beginning our day-long drive to Agra, the home of the Taj Mahal.

Temples, temples everywhere. This temple was a riot of colour.

Empty milk cans making the run back into the country for refills.

So many small villages with animals and children in the yards beside their rustic homes.

In a number of towns that we passed, stone work appeared to be the dominant economic activity. This is just one site where workers were busy hand carving pedestals, window frames, screens and all kinds of decorative stone work.

Men were preparing a new parking area for a rest stop along the highway. They worked with assembly line precision in the mixing of cement.

Women work at weeding an irrigated crop in this desert country.

A different kind of truck.

Hand labour. This is one way to keep many hands busy in a land that has more than one billion people.

Ladies en rout to the market in a nearby village.

It doesn't look like much, but there is pride of ownership regardless.
