Roman Villa

Location: Cotswolds, UK

This villa was in use at the beginning of the 4th century in it's final phase of construction. Earliest evidence of occupation on the site, a hearth under the south west range of buildings, dates from the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD

The two curved sections are from the baths in the house. These were adjacent to a recreation area. (Probably had a gym!)

This is one side of what was a three sided villa, with the three sides facing onto a courtyard. Bit hard to tell, but this section was probably 50 metres long.

Under floor heating was provided to many of the rooms. We think that was perhaps via pipes laid in the many channels that you can see under floor level in some rooms.

The mosaic is under cover in a purpose built room. Unfortunately this was shut when we visited but you get the idea.
