The Highlands

Location: UK

5 Mar 2009, 3:18AM

...was so entirely worth it for the rugged, moody beauty.

5 Mar 2009, 3:06AM

Walking around Loch Lomond amidst big hailstones...

6 Mar 2009, 12:29AM

So astounding to turn corners and find crumbling castles and forts.

5 Mar 2009, 9:43PM

On the drive from Loch Lomond to Oban

6 Mar 2009, 5:49AM

Catching the last of the daylight with cousin Iain who showed us around the farm where he grew up. Iain and Ruth were wonderfully hospitable.

6 Mar 2009, 1:20AM

View of Oban from the pier. Gorgeous little town in region where Lavinia's grandfather grew up. We had seafood and crab sandwiches on the pier, before heading to the distillery for the smooth single malt.

6 Mar 2009, 10:13PM

Tobermory on Isle of Mull.

6 Mar 2009, 8:23PM

One of the 55 photos that Lavinia took of the, admittedly impressive, highland cattle.

8 Mar 2009, 2:55AM

Fatalistic beauty of dead boats.

8 Mar 2009, 12:32AM

We spent a lot of time driving around Mull - partly because of the stunning coastline and farmland, but also because the windy one lane roads meant we were driving at 10kms an hour.

9 Mar 2009, 11:01PM

Driving through the mountains around Glencoe. Weather was wonderfully Scottish. Were thinking that we could happily live in Scotland, until we got to Spain and remembered that sunshine is a more wonderful thing.

9 Mar 2009, 1:30AM

For the first time in his life, Brendan is defeated by a meal. Haggis, tatties and neeps. Ultimate peasant food.
