Isaan 15

Location: Nong Plong Village, Thailand

Motorcycle carport.

Part of Praew's landscaping, near the driveway.

Lovely view of school from Praew's and Tawan's home. Teachers seem to be the most affluent members of the community.

Flowery vines on thatched roof of motorbike parking.

From Praew's garden.

From Praew's garden. The school's sports field is in tough shape. When it rains, it floods in places. Yet the kids will be out there kicking a soccer ball into that net, even if they can only use a few meters of field around it.

Whimsical figures in Praew's garden.

The road around the field and to the school. Only part of it is unpaved.

Here's the washing machine in the all-purpose room. Tik is wearing the funny sunhat because they're about to take Sammy and me for a picnic at Dee's family's farm. Unlike those of us from cold-weather places, she and many Thais do not like the sun. Thus the hat.

Tik doing the Vanna White thing and displaying her modern washing machine. It is in her all-purpose room, which is usually open to the outside.

Most Thai homes have huge ceramic water cisterns to collect rainwater.

Tik's long outdoor kitchen. Actually, the house was built by Dee's parents, and as in many Thai families, multiple generations live together. The hose on the bottom right fills up the washing machine to which it's attached.
