The south

Location: Albany, Wilson, William's Bay, Australia

We took a car down to Albany and then drove west along the south coast

Middleton Beach, Albany, looking towards Emu Point at the far end. Photo taken at the beginning of the scenic boardwalk trail.

Emu Point Marina in Albany in the rain.

Bandicoots! A cross between a rat and a rabbit...

The King George Sound, the place where the navy set sail during the world wars.

The river walk to Wilson Inlet, in Denmark. This is a superb wetland and bird sanctuary.

Anzac Hill Memorial Park, 1916-1918, with a view across the King George Sound from the Padre White Lookout. From here, annually, since the first anniversary of the end of the war, wreaths of poppies are floated in remembrance of those who died. This was the navy's last sight of Australia.

The fabulous beach at Greens Pool, William Bay. You can just spot the manta ray in the water but you might have difficulty spotting the small shark just at the base of the Rock in the foreground.

And pelicans in abundance.

The walk from the beach over to Elephant Rocks.

Close up of the manta ray swimming at Pete's feet.
