We travel on the Sharq train to the World Heritage Site of Samarkand.

The Ulugh Beg Observatory

The statue of Ulugh Beg

The water purification well at the Mausoleum of St Daniel, an Old Testament prophet. It is a place of pilgrimage for Jews, Christians and Muslims.

The sextant

The citadel was on the top of a flat hill.

The tomb is 18m long. it is said to grow one cm per year.

Everywhere is the most beautiful decoration.

Afrosiab, a hill fort.

A separate mausoleum for each wife. Women and men could not be buried together.

The tombs themselves were very plain.
