Location: Nizhny Novgorod, Russia

The fourth largest city in Russia built on a hill above the confluence of the Volga and the Oka, where the Oka divides the city into two halves.

The red brick Kremlin leads up from the docking area.

The landscape of the Russian steppes is changing with lush forest giving way in parts to sandy beaches.

The old palace now administrative offices.

The fortress walls measure 2kms with 13 original towers still standing.
