Page 9 Palenque

Location: Palenque, Central America

Set amongst the rainforest, this was another phenomenal find.

The palace

The temple of Pakal and the Red Queen.

Looking towards the private quarters of the wealthy.

On the roof of the palace building

The decorative tiles were put on top of buildings to make them look higher and more imposing.

The observatory

The motorised canoe on the Grijalva River

We took the half hour archaelogical walk through the forest to see the remains of the homes of the more ordinary people.

The Sumidero Canyon National Park at the point which is called Aztecs Leap. From here at the highest point, Aztecs committed suicide rather than to succumb to the Spaniards.

......some wildlife!

and got soaked....

Cascade de El Mistho, we walked the path behind the waterfall.
