The trek up to the summit

These are the next few days of trekking, finishing with the first photo from the summit

Our 3 sherpa guides

Another view of Mera - it's not getting any closer and is still a little pimple

It's still not getting any closer!

Approaching our last "civilised" camp - Kare, at 5000m

Crossing the Mera La on our way to Base Camp. We were wearing mountaineering boots and crampons now.

Getting ready for our last 2 nights in high camps with minimal gear.

Walking on a fixed rope up to High Camp. Mera is at last getting a bit nearer but is still a tiny pimple - this must be an optical illusion, surely!

Base camp - just below the glacier. It was very cold here - well it was at 5415m.

The view from our tent

Our tent at High Camp (5800m) a "spectacular eyrie nestled below a rocky outcrop on the ridge", said the literature. As you can see, the tent is perched on the edge of a cliff, and I slept on the right!

The three summiteers on the top of Mera Peak at 9am on 27 October. It was just a small pimple - but the views were awesome!

Another view of High Camp - needless to say it was very cold, especially at 2am, when we had to get up for the trek to the summit.
