Location: Kahlidiyah Village, Abu Dhabi, United Arab EmiratesAfter 41 days at the Beach Rotana Suites, we able to 'move' into our house. Moving was comprised of packing our suitcases, emptying the fridge and loading everything into the Fortuner for a trip across the city. When we arrived at the villa, we were greeted by an unthinkable number of dead or dying American cockroaches. Not, not your normal run-of-the-mill skittering demons, but 1-3 inch beasts that give you the willies. Apparently, between pesticide applications and my own handy-dandy roach motel, they were escaping INTO the house (rather than the drainage system) to die. Oh, my-my-my-my....'nuff said.
So, the past week has been filled with numerous trips to Ikea and the local hypermarket for things like extension cords, brooms, floor lamps and televisions! We've also had the pleasure of waiting for a variety of Bengali, Indian, Phillipino and Sri Lankan handymen who have hooked up our internet (see photo), killed the cockroaches and fixed the AC (no photo, just cool air...ahh). Today was spent at the curtain store deciding between black out blinds and black out curtains. It will feel homey soon in addition to being the next Ikea showroom.
