A day of intense excitement - my canyon swing! Laura & I decided to split the cost of an extra swing so that she could go too. Robin from the Kiwi bus was also roped in to doing it. I was both nervous and excited on the drive to the canyon. I started to get really nervous when they were putting the harness on me - my knees were knocking together and I had to hold on to the railing to support myself. I was the 2nd person in the group to jump. I wasn't brave enough to jump first but at the same time, I didn't want to lose the excitment and nerve by waiting around. When I stepped up to the edge, the guys made me look down into the canyon and gave me an area to aim for when I jumped. Then they said, "go!" I was like, "what, go???" And my heart jumped. But then I said, "Ok, 1, 2, 3....aaaaaaah!" And I jumped!!!! I fell much quicker than I expected to and my stomach jumped into my chest. I was screaming for a second or two but then my scream caught in my throat. I freefalled for 60metres and then swung in a 200metre arc at about 150 km an hour. It happened so quickly my brain didn't really have time to comprehend what was happening. Before I knew it, I was hanging in the middle of the canyon over the river. My heart was beating so fast and I was shaking from the rush. As they winched me up I looked all around at the canyon I just leapt into. AMAZING!!!!!!!

The thing which scared me the most was that I turned from falling forwards to falling backwards. I wasn't expecting this at all so it really shocked and scared me. I guess this happened as my freefall stopped and I headed into the swing. The canyon is 109 metres deep!!
