6 Taylor - The inside

Location: Gatineau (Hull), QC, Canada

Ok so let me explain; the woman from whom we purchased the house is Swiss-Belgian, which as she voluntarily explained, is why the house has been meticulously decorated with wood - because it remindes her of home. Admittedly this was part of the charm when we saw the house and even when we walked in and saw the wood on the range exhaust fan! However, we will be assessing what to do with all that wood. No doubt we'll keep some, we'll paint some and we'll remove some - the first thing being the wood toilet seat lol! In fact Terry and I have begun to brainstorm crafty ideas of how we could recycle some of the wood including creating a picnic table made from recycled wood from our living room ceiling ;) We love the house and can live in it as it is however, room by room, year by year we plan to redecorate and in some instances renovate. Here's what it looks like now.

Antique butcher block range with pine exhaust fan.

The side entrance into the kitchen. One of the first things to go will be the green gingham curtains (as consistent throughout the house as the wood).

16 Dec 2007, 11:39AM

Main floor landing. We love the exposed cinderblock chimney.

16 Dec 2007, 11:37AM

Custom pine cupboards. We are taking a poll - paint them? Or wait and see what they look like with contemporary appliances? And YES, ALL the appliances are from the 70's or 80's.

Office to the left of the front door and off the living room.

Living room with pine gas fireplace.

Loft from a different angle.

Loft. Yoga/mediation space perhaps.

And another.

Terry's hangout aka The Playroom. Currently a bedroom on the lower level this room will soon be filled with guitars and one day a drum kit along with photo equipment and other creativity inducing items.
