Inka Trail & Machu picchu

Location: Cusco, Peru

It was bloody hard work, but I finally made it. After trekking for 46 kilometres, with three passes over 3600m, I finally made it to Machu Picchu to live my dream! The scenery was beautiful, but it wasn´t at all easy and I don´t have lots of photos, but there are a few here, and I´ll write more about that in my journal...

The first lot of Inca ruins along the trail - Llalla-something, Ill have to bring a book to get the names correct!

Close to the start of the Trail @ Km 82. This was probably the easiest part of the trek, and set the scene for some magical sights to come...

Day 3 on the trail, and were at the top of the second pass, leaving an offering of coca leaves and a stone for Pachamama (Mother Earth). She obviously wasnt listening to my wish as I placed the offering, cos I ended up getting a headache again for the next couple of days!

Day 2 on the trail... This was morning time I think, when the going was still easy for me.

Our trekking group at the Sun Gate - were just about to head down to the Machu Picchu site!

And we finally made it. View from the Sun Gate, waiting for the sun to rise over Machu Picchu. After getting up at 4am, we were one of the first groups there to watch the sunrise.

I just liked this view, of the guard house... Its still fairly early in the morning, hence the strong sunlight coming across the mountains. Not technically a good photo, but I like it!

OK, its the typical postcard shot of Machu Picchu, but its mine, and what did you expect. I do have plenty more photos, but not digital ones...
