Diary Entries

Location: Aberaeron, Wales

Of all the nights I've ever worked, the one I have just finished has to have been the worst. So many really horrid, rude people in the bar, the were rude to all the staff, and harrassed all the poor waitresses, were sooo pissed. I'm really surprised that no one kicked off. And it's not just me that thinks so, it is a unanimous agreement that tonight was the worst night any of us had ever worked. We even made sure that every memeber of staff had a lift home. We certainly weren't going to let anyone walk with shits like the ones we had in the bar around.
At least now things can only get better.
really horrible people.

After a ridiculously long time of feeling shit, today I actually felt better. Normal even. Now f only it would just stop raining.

Being sick is boring, I'm never going to do it again.

Well it was the Aberaeron Cob and Pony Festival today, (they really seem to have a lot of events for such a small town), and so I trotted along to have a bit of a look, but got bored after the stunt riders had finished and they went on to showing horses by breed and age etc. having never been a horsy person I decided I'd had enough and wandered off again, after all I did have to go to work that arvo and I still wasn't felling well, but at least I got to see it, the ony Aberaeronb event I've gotten to so far.

I know it's been awhile, but I have a real excuse this time. I've een sick. Not 'oh my god I'm going to die' sick or anything but certainly 'crap I feel terrible I think I'll stay in bed instead of going to work' sick. It's been very annoying. So I haven't done anything much lately. But have started feeling better again now so will hopefully start having a less boring life again soon.

Had a horrible day at work today, just one of those days when you have loads to do and managed to get none of it done. And to top it all off it was an absolutly glorious day and I was stuck inside all day.

Wednesday, 23 July 2008

Location: Aberaeron, UK

Yesterday I actually worked a day shift! Yes a day shift, onl my second since I started working here, so to celebrate I went out for a few drinks with Gen and Rhys, who both had the night off as well. And the few drinks turned into a few more drinks and we were all absolutly steaming by the end of the night, and had managed to end up drinking with the welsh soap stars that are in town filming at the moment. But somehow we all managed to lose each other, I lost everyone, they lost me and each other, very odd. Great fun though. And I didn't even have a hangover this morning.
In non-alcohol related news I went to get my travel jabs today and only had to get one, just my hep A booster. Will need Yellow Fever too but can't get that in Aberaeron, will have to go to Aberystwyth for that, but I'm in no hurry, still got three months before I go.

Location: Aberaeron, UK

Well not doing much lately 'cept working. finished early on monday so had a few drinkys with some of the guys from work, which was really nice coz I don't often get the chance. And it's been nice and busy, there's a film crew in town, shooting some background for a welsh soap and the actors and crew are always coming in. As for the weather we're getting loads of lovely welsh rain.

I feel crappy!!!
I have an evil cold! Am not impressed! And typically I did the same thing as mum always does and managed to hold it off while I was really busy and then as soon as I relaxed, WHAM, the bastard hit me fully. So I've been croaking for days now and everyone thinks it's really funny. If I'd just let myself have the cold it probably wouldn't have been so bad and would be over by now.
I am sooo not impressed.
And perhaps I shouldn't have gone out for a few drinks last night, but I so rarely get a night off that I just had to. And I had some new shoes that needed to be worn so really I had no choice.

Location: Aberaeron, Wales

Had to go back to work today and I had the brillant 'I've been off work and drinking loads for a few days' kinda apathy which makes you feel like you've got a hangover even though you actually managed to get over that sometime the previous evening. But I suppose it could have been worse, I could have actually still had a hangover.

Tuesday, 17 June 2008

Location: UK

After an all-nighter decided not to visit Ben and Vicki one last time but just checked out and got on the next train so that I could go to sleep. Really don't know why I bothered booking a hostel bed while I was in Cambridge.
Finally got home something like a million hours later bought some hot chips and went to bed.
God was I tired.

Monday, 16 June 2008

Location: Cambridge, UK

Ahhhhh Beer.
That's what I remember about Cambridge, it's nice that somethings never change.
It's good to see everyone again, and nice to know that they're all the pissheads that they used to be.

Sunday, 01 June 2008

Location: Aberaeron, Wales

Is just after 1, that's am, and I've just finished work. Was a busy, loud night tonight but we got to finish off with a glass of Bollinger, lucky us. But am so glad I have the day off tomorrow, well today I suppose. It's even supposed to actually be sunny. YAY!!
Will actually try not to sleep all day.

Monday, 26 May 2008

Location: Aberaeron, Wales

Quite a funny night, everyon was really excited becaause we had ex us president Jimmy Carter in the resturant for dinner. Was hilarious, everyone was so excited and I know for a fact that a fair few of the waitresses had never even heard of him before but were still just as excited. Apparently he was quite nice, shook the waitresses hands before he left and said thank you, out in the bar I got to watch all his secret service body guards wander about for hours. Ah well, at least it was something to talk about. Finished after one for the third night in a row, I keep getting left behind the bar all on my little lonesome, and was stood up again by one of the students who was supposed to be coming in to work, have more hope for tommorrow night, long weekend is finally over and I actually have another bartender working with me tonight, YAY!

Monday, 26 May 2008

Managed to sleep in realy late again today. All these night shifts arn't doing me much good. Then again it'll come in handy when I hit Oz again, I must be halfway to Oz time already. Certainly not on British time anymore.

Saturday, 24 May 2008

Location: Aberaeron, Wales

Has been a really odd, quiet week here. Even last night which was the friday night at the start of a long weekend, but is okay by me as I am trying to spend this week at work doing as little as possible, I want to see if anyone else bothers to do anything if I haven't done it, I suspect not, am tired of working my ass of and then no one else doing anything. And I'm annoyed at work anyway, they have made me bar supervisor without actually asking me if I wanted to be in charge of the bar. Nice. And I'm now also the absolute last person to leave now that I have a hotel key - which I need coz I'm also the night porter now which is okay by me coz I get free accom with the job now, but at least before the duty manager had to wait around for me to finish so they could lock up, not anymore, now they can just leave. I anticipate many more solitary late nights at the HM.

Tuesday, 20 May 2008

Location: Aberaeron, Wales

Hmmm, Nope not really done much today. Bought some coathangers and a puppet (couldn't walk past it it was so cute) and other useful stuff. Has anyone else noticed how all your shampoo and stuff runs out at the same time - very annoying. Then hung about for the rest of the day. Much like yesterday except that yesterday I hung about at work, was supposed to be doing work but somehow managed to do absolute jack. Don't think anyone noticed - it was that kinda day.

Monday, 19 May 2008

Location: Aberaeron, Wales

Shwmae (that's Welsh for Hello by the way, I didn't just lean on my key-board)
I know it's been an age but I have finally moved into the flat above the HM's kitchens and so can use their wifi so as long as I'm not lazy I'll be able to update this with something approaching regularity. Anyway I'm going to bed now so Nos Da. That means good night, I'm getting really good at this welsh thing.

Sunday, 27 April 2008

Location: Aberaeron, Wales

Well it's been awhile but I'm back in the HM on my day off, friendly bottle of wine beside me and catching up with all the emails and messages that I've missed over the past month. It seems everyone else has been having quite an eventful April, as for me I've been working (no surprise there) but not quite so much as I was. asnd I even managed to go and have a night on the town, aparently everyone's hangovers in the morning were my fault, I don't see it myself they had all started a good hour before me, and they all agreed to the shots and kept buying them after the first round. Of course it possibly wasn't the best idea to invite them all over to mine to drink all my land-ladies wine, which I later spent several stressful days trying to replace before she came up again, but it was fun, Connor passed out on my sofa, we broke a glass and played music way to loud for whatever time of night it was, none of us can say for sure. And i've been down to Cardiff as well, quite tramaticly I had to get up to catch a 7am bus but it was a good day, I was going to do the sights but I ended up just wandering around fairly aimlessly and doing a bit of shopping, so I'll have to go back and be a tourist properly. Not done much since then but will be going out tonight. Am dubious coz I've actually got to be at work at 9am tomorrow.
Has actually been sunny here lately, beautiful.

Thursday, 03 April 2008

Location: Aberaeron, Wales

Not much has happened since last I wrote, I still work alot and haven't really done much else. I had a viscious cold last week which I think I've given to half the rest of the staff here Hahahaha! And I also kinda concussed myself last tuesday, doen't ask, I wasn't even drunk!!!! And i was discriminated against last week as well, some woman refused to be served by me because I didn't speak welsh, everyone was really shocked. So basicly last week was not the best week I've ever had. Thank god this week is turning out to be better.
Even the weathers getting better, I think it might finally be spring.

Thursday, 20 March 2008

Location: Aberaeron, Wales

Sorry, Sorry, Sorry!!!
It's been ages and I've been a bit slack but in my defense my mobile internet expired and I work a million hours a week and didn't really feel like going to one of the local pubs tp use their wifi in my breaks, but now the Harbour Master has wifi so i can sit on on e of their comfy sofas with my laptop and actually use the internet!! Yay!!!!! Of course this does mean that I have actually come into work on my day off. How sad is that. But seeing as the weather is miserable at the moment and I would just be sitting at hone doing jack otherwise i'll live with it. And I've got a nice bottle of rioja in front of me, that also helps!!
Anyway let me think about what I've been doing lately.
Not much!! I know I always say that but I really can't help it if I'm boring. Anyway, my landlady's going to b home for the long weekend so I spent all morning cleaning the house. Yuck by necessary. Then I posted a B'day pressie for Kate, and I'm quite proud of myself for remembering. Apart from that I've been working, and if I've not been working I've been sleeping. I've become kinda lazy, but I just haven't wanted to go outside for the past few weeks, it's been so miserable here, cold, wet, windy. What the hell am I doing in this horrid country!?! But I am very slowly picking up a bit of welsh, I know about 10 words now, most of them relating to wine!
And I have actually left Aberaeron, just the once, but still I went out of town. I was bored and caught a bus to Aberwystwyth, the closest big town (although that might not be how it's spelt) Wandered around for a bit and caught the bus back. Thrilling but at least now no one can say that I've been here for 6 weeks and never left town.
Anyway we're all keying ourselves up for thelong weekend here, it's expected to be busy. Which is a good thing beause it has been so quiet recently, the horrible weather has kept people away and I've been so bored. Last week i think I managed to polish every bottle in the bar at least twice so often was I cleaning everything.
All I can say is bring on the people. I need to work as much as possible so I can miss winter this year.

it's cold!!!!

Location: UK

I know it's been awhile but I actually kinda have an excuse this time. I've been busy with starting my new job and getting used to a new area. Not actually true but we can pretend. Anyway I've been in Aberaeron for a fortnight now. The town is very pretty and even though everyone seems certain that I'll go stir crazy coz it's such a small town and so out of the way, I just laugh an remind everyone that I spent most of last year stuck on a tiny island in the Atlantic, this place is positivly cosmopolitan in comparison. My new job is easy, the hotel is lovely and everyone is really nice and the owners actually treat all their staff well, a bit of a change from last year. I've completely gotten the hang of the place now, I suppose it helps that I know bar work really well, even so I've never gotten used to a new job so quickly. And surprisingly I'm actually really enjoying it, work is still a novelty after my nice long holiday I suppose. And now that I've started earning money again I get to start planning my next holiday. Yay!!!
I'm thinking of the Trans-Siberian at the moment, although that will probably change within the week.

Location: London, UK

Have yet again done absolutely nothing today.
Well I've got to get a whole lot of slobbing about fitted in before I have to start working again in a few days.
It's important to have a nice big store of idleness saved up so that it can sustain you through the horrors of having to go to work. And I have to start work again on Wednesday, it's going to be hard, not only is it a new job but I haven't had to work in over three months.
On second thoughts maybe I'll just quit my new job before I start and become a bum.
Then again maybe not, it's to cold to be homeless in London at the moment.

Thursday, 31 January 2008

Location: London, UK

Well it's taken all day but I've finally finished uploading my photo's from India. So I suppose the rainy day was useful after all.

Thursday, 31 January 2008

Location: London, UK

It's raining/cold/miserable.
I'm going to stay indoors all day.

Tuesday, 29 January 2008

Location: London, UK

Well I got myself a job today. After telling everyone that I wanted to stay in London and wasn't even going to consider going anywhere else I've gone and gotten a job in Wales. Can't quite say why but as soon as I saw it I wanted it. So I've got to move again on Monday. Oh well, that'll teach me to do things on impulse. Check out the hotel I'll be working in at www.harbour-master.com
And I've finally started adding some photo's from India but it may take awhile for me to get them all on.

Monday, 28 January 2008

Location: London, England

I think I'm over being back in England now, it was really quite exciting to be back at first. Hasn't taken long for me to get sick of it being cold and of having to find a job, and of everything being expensive. I really wouldn't mind going back to India!!!!!

Oh well, better stop rattling on and start job hunting. Am sure I'll find one today.

Sunday, 27 January 2008

Location: London, England

As usual after a bit of a drinking session I woke up ridiculously early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. And being Sunday there was absolutely no point in going outside till after midday coz everything is shut so i sat around until Heather cave me a call and we decided to go out and get some lunch and then do some job hunting together. So we headed in Leicester Square and by the time we had met up Heather had managed to get herself a job. Can't say I was impressed, now I was the only unemployed one, bugger! Anyway we went had lunch at an you can eat chinese and I made myself sick eating about twice my own body weight in food (I got a bit excited as I hadn't eaten properly since before I left India). So I spent the next hour or so making Heather walk around the streets with me so that I could try and walk off all the food.
After that hit the internet for awhile, didn't have much hope of getting a job, after all it's Sunday and no one advertises on a Sunday. But even so I did manage to get an interview but not till Tuesday, better than nothing though.
After that we wandered around a bit more, neither of us had anything to do so we were really aimless. I bought a pair of jeans, I needed then after last night, someone had trod on the edge of my jeans and they had torn up o my knee, so I had been walking around for most of the day looking a bit like a dero but what the hell. I have new jeans now.
See don't I have an exciting life.

Saturday, 26 January 2008

Location: London, England

Australia Day Today, and the reason why I chose yesterday to get back from England. After getting a good twelve hours sleep I wandered out in the search of a jacket, I got one in Primark, then I bought myself a London A-Z and deciding that was enough sensible stuff for the day I headed over to Shepherd's Bush to meet Jacqui and Heather in the Walkabout. Can't really say much more about the day except it involved loads of Beer and Bundy Rum and Dancing and singing at the top of my lungs to John Farnham - It would only happen in London. Brilliant day.
But eventually Heather got a headache and left, then Jacqui got hungry and left and once they'd gone I got bored and left. Made my way back to Queen's Park but no one was home to let me in, and it was cold so to pass time I went to the pub. Thankfully after the pub closed someone had gotten back and they let me into the flat, After all 12 hours spent in pubs is quiet enough I think.
Actually can't wait till next year now. What a fun day.

Saturday, 19 January 2008

Location: Arambol, India

Unsurprisingly we both got a little sunburnt yesterday and to make up for it have decided to sit out the middle of the day in a mixture of internet cafes and real cafes But never fear, as soon three o'clock rolls around we'll be hitting the beach once more. Today we'll probably swim in the sweetlake because the ocean is very rough today. Maybe I can convince Nathalie to swim further than a meter out from the shore.
We're also debating the ease of sending loads of tibetan shawls to the UK, Nat wants to buy at least ten, and though they are light they are bulky.
.
.
.
.
.
Oh my God!! How will we cope when we have to go back to reality?

Hi
the weather has been funny here too!!! Dad is back at work and I am just about to start back at the uni!! Your dog is getting really grumpy and is not pleasant to be near most of the time as he insists on chewing and licking himself and gets incredibly smelly!! Just off to the pool to do some knee muscle building exercises - out of splint and off crutches but have walking stick to use - want one like Poirot's!!! much easier to get around. xxxx xxxx xxxx
Response: I don't care how smelly my dog is you need to give him heaps more attention. Glad your knee's getting better I can just see you marching around with a walking stick, I know you always wanted one, try not to hit too many people with it.
From mum
hi
thought I would check out the site as Nola said you had some more photos on it - looks like you didn't have too bad a time over New Year - I hope the duck was not for dinner?
Sheena tells me that March is the time of year likely to have the worst weather!! perhaps you might have to go over to France for a while til England warms up?!!
Response: Boring, what's the point of travelling in good weather. But If the weather is really bad I will go south instead of north which sould be a bit better. And no the duck was not for dinner, it's still running around the back garden and has learnt a new trick, it now sneaks up behind you and graps your pants with its beak and won't let go.
From Jacqui
Hey sarah, do you remember in high school when we decided we were going to see france by bike.. your living the dream girl! I have resorted to buses and trains! Will definitly catch up when im back from oz.
Response: See I always said I would do it, but I think I've done the right thing in starting with England and not deciding to head straight to Europe.
From nola
