Bonfire masti & hanging out

May 2008
We (finally!) brought to life a long-cherished plan to have a bonfire on some isolated beach. We had everything for the perfect midnght picnic: fire, guitar, potatoes to roast, each other's good company.... except for enough firewood!!! Heroically resisting the temptation to steal someone's fence to feed our dying bonfire, we chose to dance the night away instead!
And the next day we were off to the Chamarel adventure park to HANG out. Literally. On ropes. :)

Da Gang [continued] :))

April - May 2008
Us again: more, bigger, better! Now with moms visiting, the gang grew to 2 car loads (and forget the gender balance! ;)))

Nous Pays - Nous Fierte!!!

March 2008
Nous Pays - Nous Fierte! (Our Country - Our Pride!) - 40 years of Mauritius' Independence!!!

Gabriel Island (again!)

2 March 2008
Gabriel!! Again!! But oh can I resist?... It's a paradise on earth baby...

Le Pouce climb

17 February 2008
Yippee - we did it!!!! We climbed Le Pouce - a must-do mountain of Mauritius, named after a thumb because it really looks like one! About 4 hours up and 3 hours down - a day of adventure and reuniting with nature (yet again!)

Back to Mauritius - nature!!!

January - February 2008
Camping in the wilderness of the South, feeding the goats in the nature park of Chamouny, jumping waves at the Arsenal beach... That's how 2008 started here in MRU!

India - sunrise at Taj Mahal

4-5 January 2008
After returning from the snows of Manali and spending a few relaxful days in Chandigarh, it was time for me to hit the road again and crown my Indian trip with a visit to the magestic Agra before flying back to Mauritius...

India - my Himalayan New Year

30 December 2007 - 1 January 2008
After a day-long drive from Kangra to our New Year's destination, I have finally found what I was longing for in the haunting heat of Mauritian summer - SNOW-CAPPED HIMALAYAS!!!

India - visiting Dalai Lama

29 December 2007
From Punjab we headed to the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, where I finally saw Himalayas close-up! After spending a night in the freezing Kangra, we set off for a day trip to Dalai Lama's place in Dharamsala.

India - Rang de Basanti!

27-28 December 2007
And so I am in Punjab - the coolest of all Indian states (at least according to me!) Tall, robust people in colourful Sikh turbans, kulcha and thick-thick lassi in roadside dhabas, bhangra, chaos, smiles... I love it. We were heading to Amritsar - a town at the "happening" India-Pakistan border and home to the magnificent Golden Temple.

India - the great river Ganges

25-26 December 2007
This is how it started - my first ever trip to the Asian continent... India is a place to visit at least once in a lifetime, otherwise you have not seen life in its full bloom! After arriving through Delhi and setting base in the welcoming warmth of Rachit's family home in the northern city of Chandigarh, I have started my trip with visiting Haridwar on the banks of the holy river Ganga and followed in the Beatles' footsteps to the hippie town of Rishikesh...

First trip to London & Oxford

5-9 December 2007
4 days were clearly not enough to discover the land of fog, rain and the Big Ben! But it was enough to reunite with some of my good friends I've not seen for ages, and to secure myself a place in Oxford for the next academic year!

Them lazy weekends...

September - November 2007
Just some of these blissful days of doing nothing, going places without a particular aim, discovering nice spots and reuniting with Mother Nature.

Ukrainians invade Mauritius!!!

September - October 2007
Finally it happened! After almost losing hope to ever see any of my Ukrainian friends in Mauritius, I was hosting not one but two of them!

Oh Paris... A day to remember

14 July 2007
My first time in Paris, or rather the first time I actually got out of the airport when in transit. Had a wonderful reunion with an old friend Robbert after almost 5 years!
